May School teachers know that the first several weeks of school are critical to establish connections and routines with students. In addition to diving into academic intervention, students are establishing good habits that directly translate to building executive function skills. Managing personal and school materials is one of the areas of executive functioning that is explicitly taught at May School. Students learn early on where materials are kept and practice the procedures of set up and clean up of materials. These skills lead to student independence and self-confidence.
May Center Teacher Institute is excited to welcome CES LEAP alternative accreditation teachers from around New Mexico to our 2021-2022 Dyslexia Specialist program. The CES LEAP cohort meets every Monday evening throughout the school year to participate in intensive preparation as Dyslexia Specialists. In addition, each CES LEAP teacher will participate in a 60 hour practicum that includes 5 coaching sessions with a May Center mentor.
Interested in becoming a Dyslexia Specialist? Our next cohort starts January 19, 2022. Registration is open now!
Meet Mr. Scott! Scott Condrey joined our Intermediate Math and Science teaching team this year. While he is one of the newest on our staff, it's as though he’s been with us for years. He is fully committed to our community whether through sharing teaching ideas, connecting with students and families or helping out with odd jobs around the building.
Mr. Scott is completing a Master's in Special Education and most recently comes to us from Santa Fe Public Schools where he worked with 6th-8th graders in the subject of mathematics. He has a strong passion for working with middle school students and is eager to bring his talents to May Center. Prior to his teaching career, Scott was a United States Marine and then a self-employed carpenter.
