One of the pillars of a Montessori education is teaching grace and courtesy. Teaching grace and courtesy helps a child see things from someone else's point of view and supports social and executive function skills development. In Ms. Daisy’s class, our youngest students begin practicing acts of grace and courtesy within the first days of school. Tasks begin as simple as holding the door for a friend or providing a placemat for peers at snack. Students also learn to wait to eat until everyone is ready and a song or nursery rhyme is recited, signaling that it is time to eat. Most recently, Ms. Daisy’s students have had opportunities to practice their grace and courtesy skills outside of the classroom while on field trips to the public library and while on a train ride to Tomasita’s restaurant, where they practiced ordering and table manners. Now more than ever, our world needs more individuals who have had the opportunity to practice grace and courtesy skills.

Meet Ms. Jennifer! Ms. Jennifer is one of our newest members of the Intermediate teaching team.

Jennifer Reese moved to New Mexico four years ago. She has a BA in Political Science, an MA in English, and has also completed her advanced EMT training.

Jennifer taught developmental studies English and writing at East Tennessee State University before opening her own business. Since moving to Santa Fe, she has worked as a supervisor at Youth Shelters of Santa Fe and as a case manager at the Midtown Shelter. Fun Fact: In her time away from May School, Jennifer runs a small production company with two other women.

What her students have to say: "She is funny, nice, calm and happy. She wants my dreams to come true."
