May Center Expands to Albuquerque!
May Center Summer LEAP Program Heading to Albuquerque
New Individualized Six-Week Course Strengthens Skills for Students Entering Grades 3-8
May Center for Learning, a leader in the field of learning differences located in Santa Fe, is expanding to Albuquerque through a partnership with Albuquerque Academy. Summer LEAP (Learning, Empowerment, Advocacy, Principles) is a half-day, six-week program for students entering grades 3-8 that emphasizes executive functioning skills and essential skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. It will be offered mornings from June 7 to July 16, 2021 on the Albuquerque Academy campus. Tuition assistance is available for families that qualify.
Appropriate for students with diagnosed learning differences like dyslexia, students who want to make gains in their academic skills over the summer, and those transitioning to a new school or program, Summer LEAP empowers students to learn more about how they learn best and explicitly teaches students the skills to ask for what they need in the classroom. Summer LEAP teachers complete extensive professional development in best practices for diverse learners, including those with diagnosed learning differences. Daily language therapy instruction is provided.
A 4:1 student/teacher ratio allows all subject areas to be individualized for each student while following CDC and health department guidelines. Each student will receive concrete feedback at the end of the session that can be shared with their teachers in the fall.
"It is the perfect time to kick off this long-term relationship with Albuquerque Academy,” says Amy Miller, executive director of May Center for Learning. “Being able to return to the classroom over the summer in a small-group, specialized setting will help children living with learning differences gain confidence about going back to school and help make up for any learning loss associated with remote learning."
Families interested in participating in the Summer LEAP Program should apply through May Center for Learning. Visit maycenter.org to learn more.
